What is miao dao?

The Miao Dao, also known as the Chinese long saber, is a type of Chinese sword that originated in the late Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and gained popularity during the Qing dynasty (1644-1912). It is characterized by its long, straight blade with a single edge and a guard that curves towards the blade.

The Miao Dao was primarily used by infantry soldiers in Chinese military forces, particularly in cavalry units. It was also commonly used by martial artists and trained civilians for self-defense and combat.

The length of the Miao Dao typically ranges from 1.2 to 1.5 meters, making it one of the longest Chinese swords. Its design allows for fast and powerful strikes, as well as thrusting techniques.

Today, the Miao Dao is still used in traditional Chinese martial arts training, particularly in the practice of traditional Chinese swordsmanship. It is also sometimes used in modern Wushu competitions and demonstrations.
